Communities In Schools of Nevada: Helping Las Vegas Students Stay on Track

Communities in Schools of Nevada.

Las Vegas schools are making measurable progress, and the fastest way to keep that momentum is to make sure a student’s basic needs never become the reason they fall behind. When a child has consistent access to food, school supplies, clothing, and a stable support system, their ability to focus, participate, and succeed in the classroom improves dramatically. That is exactly where Communities In Schools of Nevada (CIS) steps in, providing on-campus support through trusted Site Coordinators who build real relationships with students and connect them to the resources they need to stay on track.

CIS of Nevada serves 117 high-needs schools and nearly 100,000 students from adverse circumstances, providing resources and opportunities they would likely not otherwise receive.

You can donate to Communities in Schools of Nevada directly through a link on Rice Real Estate & Property Management’s website. Help us support their efforts in a meaningful, local way with a one-time or annual contribution. Contributions made directly through the CIS platform are dedicated to helping serve students and families in high-need Las Vegas schools, including funding Resource Rooms, snack shelves, essential supplies, and targeted student support initiatives. Rather than a broad, abstract donation, this approach allows our community to give with purpose and clarity, knowing that a contribution helps remove real-life barriers that impact learning every single day.

Yes, good things are happening in Las Vegas schools

  • CCSD’s Class of 2025 graduation rate rose to 86.6%, up from 81.5% the prior year.
  • Students in the Communities in Schools program have a graduation rate of 97%.
  • Nevada’s school “star ratings” show improvement trends across many Clark County schools.

Progress is real. But for many students, life outside the classroom still creates daily barriers to success.

What Communities In Schools of Nevada does (and why it works)

Communities In Schools of Nevada surrounds students with a community of support so they can stay in school and achieve in life. CIS Nevada places full-time, trained Site Coordinators inside high-needs schools to build trusted relationships and connect students to the right resources at the right time.

Volunteer opportunities (including family-friendly options)

CIS Nevada welcomes volunteers who want to share skills, support events, or participate in school-based opportunities
(a background check is required). If you’ve ever thought, “I’m not sure where I can help,” this is a good place to start.

Family-friendly way to help

If your kids love shopping and delivering supplies (mine do too), pick one monthly mission: snacks, hygiene kits, or a small clothing drive. It’s hands-on, tangible, and it teaches service in a way kids remember.

Future initiative: Real-life skills that build confident adults

Alongside donations, I’m exploring ways to support practical life education for students: basic home maintenance, saving, investing, and the time value of money. These aren’t “extra” skills. They are stability skills.

Why I care about this

Visiting a CIS Resource Room left me encouraged and inspired. You can feel the power of the relationships between Site Coordinators and their students. I walked away with a deeper understanding of what consistent support really does: it turns stress into stability, and stability into opportunity.

Every summer our family donates to Communities in Schools “Fill the Bus” program to reach more students and help provide hope and a stronger future for Las Vegas—one student at a time.

Construction Advances Toward 2026 Completion

Nearly one year after breaking ground, NBA Hall of Famer, member of Communities In Schools (CIS) national board of directors, Boys & Girls Club (BGC) Alumni Hall of Fame and founder of The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, Shaquille O’Neal, returned to the site of the future Shaquille O’Neal Youth Complex last week. He was joined by UFC President & CEO Dana White, Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, and leadership from Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and Communities In Schools of Southern Nevada, to tour construction progress and reaffirm their shared commitment to local youth.
